Connection Who?
We are an award-winning social enterprise, committed to creating fair and equal opportunities to work as a Living Wage Employer, and doing right by the planet at the same time as we aim for net zero by 2030.
Our purpose is simple: to end homelessness and inequality by supporting people to access work that they love, that works for them in the long run.
We exist to provide opportunities for people who have been affected by homelessness or faced social disadvantage to become work-ready through access to training, mentoring and employment opportunities.
How do we do it?
We do this by providing support to people who are furthest from the job market to learn crewing skills, build confidence, and join and thrive in our crew.
We work with referral partners who connect us to people who are facing barriers to work. We run outreach sessions, training programmes, and a mentoring scheme to help people thrive in our crew.
This is not limited to, but could be someone who is:
- Living in short term or unsecured accommodation, such as shelters or hostels
- Has left an institution such as care, prison, or the armed forces
- Has been long term unemployed
- Has additional needs to be supported in the workplace (such as neurodiversity)
What does the process look like?
Things start with a Test + Build.
This is a half-day taster session for you and your key worker, where you get to see if crewing is for you.
You'll get to try out elements of event crewing like building a stage, and learn about what you can expect.
After this comes the Academy itself.
This is a 3-day training course for people who want to build skills + confidence before starting work. You'll learn even more about events crewing and get hands-on to learn more technical skills.
Every graduate of the Academy is guaranteed an interview to join the crew.
